The COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial impact on the film industry. Theatres have been shut for over three months now, due to the lockdown. But things seem to be looking good, with two most awaited movies of 2020 have been scheduled to release in the theaters in festivals. Yes! You read it right. Our Diwali and Christmas is all set with Akshay Kumar’s cop-drama Sooryavanshi and Ranveer Singh’s sports drama ’83. Both the movies have been scheduled to release in the theatres during festivals. 2020 definitely snatched away most of the year, but let’s see if the ending will be a blockbuster one.
INOX tweeted from its handle that Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi helmed by Rohit Shetty is scheduled to hit the theaters on Diwali, while Ranveer Singh’s ‘83 directed by Kabir Khan is expected in the theaters on Christmas 2020. The tweet reads, “Mark your calendars! We are getting ready to bring you Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi on Diwali and Kabir Khan’s 83 on Christmas THIS YEAR!!” The fans still await official announcement from the filmmakers, but this tweet is already doing rounds on social media.
The original release day of Sooryavanshi, in which Akshay Kumar is co-starring with Katrina Kaif, was March 24. Likewise, ’83 that also stars Deepika Padukone was to hit the theatres on April 10, but due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the makers of bothe the films had to postpone the release.
Kabir Khan, in an interview with Hindustan Times, had said that they are ready to wait for the lockdown comes to an end to release the films. “There are a lot of efforts, resources and energy that go into films and we would like people to enjoy our films. Both, Rohit and I, would want the audience to enjoy our films on the big screen and therefore we are ready to wait it out for things to get better. It’s not like the lockdown will open and we will throw our films to test the waters. No. We will wait till we’re comfortable” He said.
