Bollywood actress Shamita Shetty fondly reminisced about her debut film Mohabbatein, which marks its 25th anniversary this year. Released on October 27, 2000, the Aditya Chopra-directed romantic drama introduced Shamita to the world of cinema under the Yash Raj Films banner.
Speaking at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) X FDCI event in Mumbai, the actress shared her excitement about her debut film’s milestone. “I’m happy that after so many years, I’m still standing here. Mohabbatein was a dream debut for me, and it’s a film that I can still watch. It’s timeless,” said Shamita.
In Mohabbatein, Shamita played Ishika, a feisty college student entangled in a love story within the rigid confines of Gurukul, an elite school led by Amitabh Bachchan’s strict principal character. The film also starred Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, becoming a massive hit for its soul-stirring music and engaging storyline.
At 46, Shamita Shetty remains hopeful about her acting career. “I’m waiting for something nice to come my way. Let’s see if there’s a filmmaker out there who believes I can do good work on screen. I’m ever willing to work,” she shared.
Apart from her film career, Shamita has been in the spotlight for her roles in Zeher, Bewafaa, Cash, and reality shows like Bigg Boss 15.
Additionally, she congratulated Lakme Fashion Week on its 25th edition, recognizing its role in giving a platform to fashion designers. “Lakme Fashion Week was one of the first platforms to help designers showcase their work and creativity. They have continued to do so for so many years,” she said.
As Mohabbatein turns 25, fans fondly remember Shamita Shetty’s energetic performance, and the actress remains optimistic about making her Bollywood comeback with a strong role.
