Bong Joon-ho, the visionary director behind Parasite, returns with his latest sci-fi black comedy, Mickey 17. Starring Robert Pattinson in the lead role, the film is an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7. With an ensemble cast featuring Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Mark Ruffalo, and Toni Collette, the film explores themes of identity, survival, and the ethics of cloning.

Premiering at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival on February 15, 2025, Mickey 17 will first be released in South Korea on February 28 before making its way to U.S. theaters on March 7.

A Sci-Fi thriller with a unique premise

Set in a distant future, Mickey 17 follows a disposable employee, known as an “Expendable,” who is part of a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world of Niflheim. Every time he dies, he is regenerated with most of his memories intact. However, things take a turn when he encounters his next iteration, sparking a conflict that threatens the entire colony.

Bong Joon-ho blends thought-provoking storytelling with dark humour, creating an intense yet entertaining cinematic experience. With Robert Pattinson leading the charge, the film promises a gripping performance, packed with existential dilemmas and high-stakes survival.

Robert Pattinson’s first major sci-fi role since Tenet

Known for his diverse filmography—from The Batman to Good Time—Pattinson returns to the sci-fi genre after Christopher Nolan’s Tenet. His portrayal of the protagonist, Mickey Barnes, is expected to be both emotionally compelling and physically demanding, fitting Bong Joon-ho’s signature storytelling style.

With its mix of satire, suspense, and cutting-edge visuals, Mickey 17 is shaping up to be one of 2025’s must-watch films.
