Leo: Thalapathy Vijay’s film becomes 2023’s biggest opener with ₹150 Crores; fans break coconuts on Chennai streets – WATCH

Because of the huge pre-release buzz, the film debuted to tremendous success at the box office.

Leo, starring Thalapathy Vijay and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, finally hit theatres on October 19, after weeks and months of intense anticipation among fans and industry insiders.

Following the failures of Master, Beast, and Varisu at the movie office, fans were eager to see the new Vijay flick triumph. The fact that it was being staged as a continuation of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe that Kanagaraj had envisioned with the success of Kaithi and Vikram made fans eagerly await Leo’s release.

Despite mixed reviews from reviewers and some fans, the film appears to have outperformed its predicted opening-day box office. While many praised Vijay for his no-holds-barred performance, many were disappointed by

Kanagaraj’s disjointed writing in addition to Vijay’s performance, Manoj Paramahansa’s photography and Anirudh Ravichander’s background soundtrack were lauded.

The film’s producers reported that the film’s first-day global collections were ₹148 crores, making it the highest opening day for an Indian film in 2023. It’s also the biggest opening in Tamil movie history.

In an unusual incident seen on Chennai streets, erratic Vijay followers were seen stopping traffic while breaking coconuts in the middle of the street to celebrate Leo’s achievement. Take a look at this citizen film on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A user named theskindoctor13 advised those who participated in this ridiculous exercise to ‘give coconuts to commuters for free.’

Many people believed that if the producers had opted to focus on their marketing efforts in India’s northern states, Leo may have earned more than expected. However, if the current trend continues, Leo has a potential to surpass Rajinikanth’s Jailer’s lifetime earnings.

In addition to Vijay, Trisha Krishnan, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Sarja, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and others appear in Leo.
