Following the success of Shaitaan in 2024, its makers are set to bring another horror film titled Maa. Featuring Kajol in the lead role, this mythological horror thriller is directed by Vishal Furia and written by Saiwyn Quadras. The film is slated for a theatrical release on June 27, 2025.
Kajol announced the film’s motion poster on social media, stating, “Hell is here… so is the Goddess! Battle begins on 27th June 2025, in cinemas near you. #Maa #Maa27June”. The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Bengali, expanding its reach to a wider audience.
Backed by Ajay Devgn’s Devgn Films, Kumar Mangat Pathak’s Panorama Studios, and Jio Studios, Maa comes after the success of Shaitaan, which ranked among the highest-grossing films of 2024. The film’s ensemble cast also includes Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, and Kherin Sharma in key roles.
Vishal Furia, known for exploring the horror genre, previously directed Chhorii (2021) and Forensic (2022). After completing Maa, he is set to work on Chhorii 2.
Apart from Maa, Kajol has a packed schedule with upcoming projects. She will feature in the high-octane action film Maharagni – Queen of Queens, as well as the patriotic drama Sarzameen, alongside Ibrahim Ali Khan. Additionally, she is set to return in The Trial Season 2, which will stream on JioHotstar.
With an intriguing storyline rooted in mythology, Maa aims to deliver a unique horror experience when it arrives in cinemas next year.
