Shooter Asghar Ali Khan has complained against the makers of Sherni, for twisting the facts related to the killing of the tigress, Avni. He said that he didn’t receive any satisfactory feedback from the filmmakers, for the legal notice sent two weeks ago. “We are consulting the legal advisers. We have not yet taken a final call,” Asghar Ali Khan told IANS on Wednesday.

Asghar Ali Khan is the son of a renowned shooter, Nawab Sahafath Ali Khan. He shot dead the tigress, Avni in Yavatmal, Maharashtra in 2018. According to him, the movie portrayed shooters as “happy-trigger shooters”, which is wrong. He said, “We had gone there at the invitation of the government and killed the man-eater tigress which had mauled to death 14 persons but we were projected as if we were hunting for fun.”

The filmmaker denied all his allegations and said that the movie wasn’t subjected to hamper Asghar’s or his father’s reputation. All these allegations were based on speculative media reports, without any base.

However, according to indiatvnews.com, Asghar said, “If there is one similarity between what was shown in the movie and what happened in Avni case, it can be called coincidence but there are so many similarities. There was a lady officer in the real operation, there is a lady officer (Vidya Balan) in the movie. There are other similarities like two cubs of the tigress and the use of urine of another tiger to attract the tigress.”

He even mentioned that it was the largest operation against a man-eater, since Independence. By killing the tigress, he saved the lives of 21,000 residents who were living in the villages nearby. Most of the surrounding area contained human settlements.
