When many big films are releasing directly on OTT platforms, the makers of Coolie No.1 have decided to save the entertainer for the big screen. Coolie No.1 starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan was set to release on 1st May 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release was postponed indefinitely. Coolie No.1 is a big ‘masala’ entertainer which will be best enjoyed in the theatres with the mass audience. Now, due to Bollywood Hungama’s reports, the distribution rights have been bought by Balaji Productions owned by Ekta Kapoor.
David Dhawan is known to make big entertainers and has extremely bankable actors like Varun and Sara. The ensemble also includes Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and Javed Jaffery which adds to the film’s value. Hence Ekta Kapoor has bought the distribution rights in India for 50 crores. The source also added that they are looking at 1st January 2021 as the release date. It will be a good start to a new year and also Varun was going to have a release with Dharma called ‘Mr.Lele’ and after the film has been shelved, he wants to release it on that day.
The makers are confident that if the Coronavirus situations become mildly better and the required precautions are taken, the people will come to the cinemas. The movie has great songs and locations which will surely attract the mass.
Given at the price, the box-office collections would have to be 110 crores to break even, which was easy in a pre-COVID situation. However, keeping the uncertainty of the situation, nothing can be predicted.
Coolie No.1 is the official remake of the Govinda and Karisma Kapoor starrer with the same name. This is the third collaboration of the father-son duo after ‘Main Tera Hero’ and ‘Judwaa 2.’
