Warner Bros. has acquired the “Maude v. Maude” package with Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry attached to star after a competitive bidding war involving many studios that lasted into the weekend.

Scott Mosier’s script will be used under the direction of Roseanne Liang.  Berry and Jolie will produce under the HalleHolly label, along with Berry’s producing partner Holly Jeter, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Joe Roth, who will produce under the RK Films banner.

The production will be overseen by Mosier and Liang. The careers of Berry and Jolie have spanned three decades, but they have never collaborated. But both are seasoned professionals; Berry portrayed Jinx in the hugely successful Bond film Die Another Day, and Jolie played the main role in the popular action movie Salt.

Berry’s other action-packed film roles include those in John Wick: Chapter 3 (Parabellum) and the X-Men films, while Jolie is most known for creating the character of Lara Croft in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Maleficent. The package went on sale last week and was completed over the weekend, with Warner Bros. placing the highest and winning offer.

Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca have been working to add more movie star-focused packages to their future schedule since they took over as co-studio presidents. With Warners making an impressive bid—one you haven’t seen from the studios in a while given the seemingly limitless sums of money the streamers seem to have, it was too hard to pass up once this package with two of the biggest stars of the last 20 years came together.

In January 2022, Berry and Jeter teamed up with the intention of producing a variety of projects, including serious dramas, lighthearted comedies, action movies, horror films, and more, with a focus on elevating complex, powerful women and women of colour in key positions both in front of and behind the camera. Berry and Jeter are executive producing the Lionsgate feature Never Let Go, which is presently in production.

The film is being produced by 21 Laps, with Alex Aja directing.Regarding Jolie, the latest Without Blood film she recently directed included Salma Hayek and Demian Bichir. Jolie will next appear in the Pablo Larrain-directed biopic Maria, which will centre on opera diva Maria Callas.
