Gumraah, a film by Mrunal Thakur and Aditya Roy Kapur, was released this past Friday. The Vardhan Ketkar-directed criminal thriller didn’t generate much buzz ahead of its release, and a weak box office debut was always likely. Gumraah reportedly made Rs. 1.50 crore on day one.
It would have been nice if the Gumraah teaser and music had excited moviegoers more. Aditya Roy Kapur does, however, have a devoted fan base and has been doing well since “The Night Manager.” In light of the modest start of Rs 1.50 crore, Gumraah has a remote probability of seeing a rise in attendance over the weekend.
#Gumraah puts up a lacklustre total on Day 1, despite holiday [#GoodFriday]… Fri ₹ 1.10 cr. #India biz.

None of the movies appear to be dominating the box office at the time. While Bholaa, starring Ajay Devgn, lost its audience within the first week, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, has nearly finished its strong run after crossing the Rs 130 crore threshold.
After Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, Luv Ranjan’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, is the only other Hindi film to have surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark in 2023.
As per the sources this movie is a remake of 2019 “Thadam”. It will now be very interesting to observe if Gumraah gets going in the upcoming days.
