The movie was based on the classic Bengali novel, ‘Devdas’, written by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. It was the first Indian movie to enter Cannes Film Festival and was India’s first official submission for the Oscars. The movie also had a refreshing music album and was known for its iconic sets.
