Disney+ announces list of new K-drama to be introduced in 2024

Disney+ has been steadily boosting its output of high-end Korean drama. The streaming service on Monday revealed a growing slate of star-driven Korean original content for 2024, which will be building on the momentum of last year’s critical and commercial popularity of hit shows like Big Bet and Moving.

Among the newly announced titles joining the streaming giant’s slate include thriller Blood Free, mystery series Unmasked, an actioner The Tryant, crime drama Gangnam B-side, and season 3 of reality show The Zone: Survival Mission.

The list is an additional earlier announced titles for the current year, which included Lightshop, created by Kang Full, who is popularly known as webtoon creator turned screenwriter, and a period drama Uncle Samsik, starring Song Kang-ho, who rose to immense fame with his role in Parasite. Disney has also announced that more Korean content will be followed throughout the year.

Blood Free

Starring Ju Jihoon and Han Hyojoo, Blood Free follows a former bodyguard haunted by the failures of his past. Post diving into the rabbit hole of tangled leads, he finds himself recruited to protect the CEO of a controversial lab-grown meat company who is also a survivor of fateful attacks that changed his life.

Set in modern-day Seoul, the series follows a crack team of investigative journalists who are fighting for their careers after broadcasting a controversial story. With a quick-nearing timeline, the team is tasked with an impossible twenty-year-old mission, which involves a famous actor who disappeared without any trace.

The Tyrant

The Tyrant follows a U.S. government agent as he tries to recover a deadly new virus, which has been stolen from South Korean government. With everything at stake, the global intelligence agencies battle against nefarious parties to prevent the virus from spreading throughout the world.

Gangnam B-side

The crime drama follows a pariah detective pulled back into the game after his daughter’s friend goes missing. The detective will have to delve back into a world of vice, where her daughter’s friend is just the latest victim on the long list of women going missing.

The Zone: Survival Mission – season 3

The reality show has been renewed for its third installment with Kwon Yuri and Yoo Jaesuk returning alongside new hosts – popular YouTuber Dex and former UFC fighter Kim Donghyun.

Uncle Samsik

The series is a societal drama set in 1960s Korea that follows an idealistic politician and political mixer Uncle Samsik, who operates in the shadows.
