Mobile Suit Gundam SEED hit theaters in Japan in January 2024 and quickly became a major success, earning over $32 million and setting a new record as the highest-grossing film in the Gundam franchise. Since its debut, the movie has been available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in Japan. However, Netflix has officially confirmed that starting September 1, 2024, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED will be available for streaming worldwide.
This film is a follow-up to the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Destiny anime series. Directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, who also helmed the original anime series, the film is set one year after the events of the anime. Development for the movie began in 2006 but faced delays due to the declining health of writer Chiaki Morosawa, who unfortunately passed away in 2016.

In Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom, the story unfolds in 75 C.E., with ongoing battles and a world government struggling to repel the Blue Cosmos invasion. To address the conflict, they establish Compass, a peace-monitoring organization, led by Lacus Clyne as its first president. The Emerging Countries Foundation also suggests a joint operation with Compass to take down the Blue Cosmos headquarters.
Just three days after its release, the film had already sold over 630,000 tickets and made approximately $7.20 million.
