The Oscar-winning song “Naatu Naatu,” composed by MM Keeravani, was presented with the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. At Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President will award the Padma Awards for 2023.

The President of India confers the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in recognition of exceptional contribution in a variety of sectors. This award was given to MM Keeravani on Wednesday in recognition of his substantial contributions to the music industry.

MM Keeravani began his career as a music director in the Telugu film business after being born in Kovvuru, Andhra Pradesh. His inventive and catchy compositions, which immediately became a defining feature of his style, helped him gain notoriety. He has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the cinema industry throughout the years, including Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Varma, and SS Rajamouli.

At the 95th Academy Awards, Keeravani also recently received an Oscar for his song ‘Naatu Naatu,’ which was included in the movie RRR. The Best Original Song category won the Oscar. At the event, the song was also performed and garnered a standing ovation.

Previously, he tweeted:  “Much honoured by the civilian award from the Govt of India Respect for my parents and all of my mentors from Kavitapu Seethanna garu to Kuppala Bulliswamy Naidu garu on this occasion.”

He is renowned for his Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi songwriting. His popular Hindi songs include O Saathiya, Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla, and Tu Mile Dil Khile.
