Lazarus anime now has a 2025 release window At SDCC 2024

Adult Swim’s panel at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con revealed that the series Lazarus will premiere in 2025. While the exact premiere date hasn’t been confirmed yet, we do know it will air on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block. So far, Adult Swim has only released the series’ logo and a teaser, but we expect more details to come in the upcoming months.

The series is directed by Shinichirō Watanabe, famous for his work on Cowboy Bebop. The animation will be handled by Studio MAPPA, with Chad Stahelski, known for his work on John Wick, directing the fight scenes.

Lazarus Plot

The series is set in 2052, a time of global peace and prosperity brought about by Dr. Skinner’s miracle drug, Hapuna, which cures all diseases. After receiving the Nobel Prize, Dr. Skinner vanishes. Three years later, he reappears with a chilling announcement: everyone who has taken Hapuna will die within three years. In response, a special task force of five members is assembled to save humanity from this impending doom. Their mission is to find Dr. Skinner and develop a vaccine before time runs out.

 

Lazarus Cast and Crew

While the cast details haven’t been released yet, the music for the series will be scored by Kamasi Washington, Floating Points, and Bonobo. MAPPA will handle the animation, and Sola Entertainment will take care of general production.

In the teaser, we see the protagonist escaping from a maximum-security prison, Dr. Skinner’s broadcast being played worldwide, and the protagonist jumping off a high-rise building. Stay tuned for more updates about Lazarus!
