In the previous chapter of Blue Lock, Rin Itoshi counterattacked Bastard Munchen, which made Yoichi Isagi realize that Rin is a restrictive world-type player. To deal with Rin, Isagi needed to emulate Sae Itoshi.
As Rin’s ego began to break down, his memories started surfacing. Although there were hints that Chapter 271 would delve into Rin’s past with Sae, the focus was more on the development of Rin’s ego rather than just his past.
Here’s what the spoilers for Blue Lock Chapter 271 reveal:
The chapter, titled “Life is Beautiful,” explores Rin Itoshi’s early years and his relationship with his older brother, Sae Itoshi. It starts with the Itoshi brothers returning home, where their mother questions Rin about a broken toy. Sae covers for Rin, taking the blame to spare him from their mother’s scolding. After Sae is taken aside by their father for a talk, the brothers stick their tongues out at each other.
The scene shifts to a popular kids’ show called ‘Evolmen,’ featuring heroes battling a monster. Rin and other kids at kindergarten mimic the show’s scenes, shouting “Life is beautiful.” During playtime, Rin destroys a Jenga tower and later tries to jump onto a flock of pigeons, injuring himself in the process.
At home, Rin watches TV with interest as a cheetah hunts a gazelle. His parents discuss Rin’s impulsive and disruptive behavior and its effect on Sae. Rin overhears this and is found by Sae, who tries to cheer him up with ice cream. Rin refuses and asks Sae if he thinks he’s weird and bothersome. Sae admits he too is often called weird but assures Rin it doesn’t bother him.
Sae notices Rin watching Evolmen and asks about his fascination. Rin explains he admires the boss monster for fighting someone stronger and risking its life. This reflects Rin’s desire to challenge strong opponents, even at a personal cost.
Returning to the present, Rin understands that his ego is not just about destruction but “destruction at the cost of life,” which clarifies his true nature and strengthens his resolve. The chapter ends with Michael Kaiser challenging Rin for the ball, calling him rude. Chapter 272 is teased to be titled “Rock-Paper-Scissors” and will feature a full-color opening page.
