Recently, Zayn has primarily avoided the spotlight. Nobody Is Listening, his final album, was released in 2021, and by the end of the year, there were rumours that RCA Records had dumped him. The news that Zayn had joined Mercury Records and would be releasing new songs on July 21 came to light last month.
Zayn has largely shied away from the spotlight lately. His final album, Nobody Is Listening, was released in 2021, and by the year’s conclusion, there were allegations that RCA Records had fired him. Last month, it was revealed that Zayn has joined Mercury Records and will be releasing new music on July 21.
In the Call Her Daddy trailer, Zayn spoke on his overall unwillingness to be interviewed, saying, “I feel like we were so overexposed in the band. That’s why I took the time I have to not even necessarily do interviews.”
Six years isn’t quite accurate — he did a handful of interviews in 2021. That being said, Zayn might be referring to the type of interview.
In the clip, Zayn can be heard talking about the band One Direction. He says, “They just said, ‘Oh yeah, you can be the mysterious one.’ It wasn’t necessarily even my personality, I’m just chill. I know a lot of people have high-energy personalities and it’s just not the way I am.”
Zayn then turned his attention to his daughter, Khai, saying, “Since I’ve had my daughter, the main thing in my mind is trying to be a good example to her. That’s why I’m even doing this interview. I used to get a lot of anxiety around having a conversation like this and I want her to be able to look at me and go, ‘Yo, my dad’s doing this.’”
“I keep being told I’m doing dad jokes, I’m leaning into it,” he continued. “I feel like we get to a certain point in adult life where everything is kind of vague and gray and boring, and she’s brought that color back.”
We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out how Zayn felt about the interview’s potential to help people get to know him.
