Disney has exciting news for fans of Frozen—a special filmed version of the hit musical will be released on Disney+ in 2025, featuring Samantha Barks as Elsa. This announcement was made during the Disney Entertainment Showcase panel at the D23: Ultimate Fan Event, where Barks performed the iconic song “Let It Go.”
Frozen: The Musical brings the beloved Disney film to life with breathtaking visuals, engaging humor, and memorable music. The show follows the story of two sisters, Elsa and Anna, dealing with the consequences of Elsa’s ice powers, which inadvertently cast their kingdom, Arendelle, into an eternal winter. As Anna embarks on a quest to find her sister and save their home, the narrative explores the power of true love to overcome challenges.
Frozen: The Musical release date
The musical, which first premiered in the West End in 2021, has enjoyed successful runs on Broadway and a North American tour. It was recorded earlier this year at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and the filmed version will be available on Disney+ in 2025. The exact release date will be announced later.
The show features music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, a book by Jennifer Lee, and is directed by Michael Grandage. Alongside classic songs from the film such as “For the First Time in Forever,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Let It Go,” the musical includes twelve new songs written specifically for the stage.
