Just when you thought you’d heard it all, they’re now planning to turn the viral internet sensation “Skibidi Toilet” into a full-fledged franchise. And by “they,” I mean the mega-famous director Michael Bay and his partner Adam Goodman. According to an interview with Variety, they’re in talks to turn “Skibidi Toilet” into both a TV series and a movie. “If we find the right partner who sees the potential for this to grow and develop, then branching out into film and TV seems like a natural next step,” Goodman said.
What is Skibidi Toilet
The “Skibidi Toilet” series, created by Alexey Gerasimov, first appeared in February 2023. It features a man’s head popping out of a toilet, singing a catchy tune, and lunging toward the camera. The quirky short went viral, leading to a whole series of increasingly elaborate and violent episodes. These shorts now feature epic battles between the toilet-bound man and an alien cyborg race, all set in a wordless, action-packed world. The series has racked up hundreds of millions of views, and Goodman and Bay are eager to build on this success. They see huge potential in turning Gerasimov’s creation into something as big as major franchises like “Transformers” or the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Goodman believes that “Skibidi Toilet” has the potential to become a legendary franchise, comparing it to hit films like “District 9” and the “John Wick” series. Merchandise for the series is also set to launch this fall. To help with this transition from viral hit to mainstream success, Michael Bay and production designer Jeffrey Beecroft are working closely with Gerasimov to elevate the series and get it ready for TV and film.
Only time will tell if “Skibidi Toilet” can capture audiences’ imaginations like “Five Nights at Freddy’s” did at the box office. But with Michael Bay’s knack for turning a minor success into a major hit, it’s clear he’s hoping “Skibidi Toilet” will be his next big win.
