For a 53-year-old billionaire like Elon Musk, who’s often seen as a larger-than-life figure, his behavior on social media sometimes resembles that of a cheeky toddler. The owner of X (formerly Twitter) recently showed this side of himself in a response to Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 presidential race.
In a post by The Babylon Bee, a conservative Christian satire site, which humorously suggested that Jill Biden, not Joe Biden, was the real power behind the presidency, Musk decided to weigh in. He responded with just two laughing emojis, making light of the joke and finding amusement in the mockery of the 81-year-old president.
Predictably, Musk’s followers mirrored his tone. Their reactions ranged from crude and mocking to downright childish. One follower quipped, “😂😂😂😂 poor Jill is gonna be full-time nanny come January,” while another remarked, “🤣🤣🤣 Oh, they’ve had that one holstered for a while.”
Another commenter, with a typical patriotic flair, simply stated, “Don’t care who runs, Trump will win,” and another chimed in with, “I bet ‘ol Jill isn’t happy having to give up power! Her private plane, the White House, Camp David, her Vogue magazine covers, etc. She should be ashamed of herself!!!🤬”
The responses seemed to reflect a mix of juvenile humor and political grandstanding, creating a cacophony of vitriol and mockery. It was as if all the negativity in the world had been distilled into a single outpouring of dismissive comments.
Musk’s reaction and his followers’ responses were a reminder of how social media can amplify both the humor and the harshness of public discourse.
