Colin Jost, the beloved Weekend Update co-anchor from Saturday Night Live, is known for his sharp wit and humorous take on the week’s most absurd political stories. We all enjoy his on-screen antics with Michael Che, but it turns out there’s some unexpected drama in Jost’s life right now.
What’s Happening with Colin Jost?
According to People, Colin Jost recently made headlines for a less-than-ideal reason: while reporting on surfing at Teahupo’o, Tahiti during the 2024 Summer Olympics, he injured his toes quite badly. As reported by USA Today, Jost’s foot started bleeding after he collided with a coral reef while surfing. Ouch! He ended up with a staph infection, so he needed medical attention to make sure everything healed properly.
It’s not Jost’s first surfing mishap, either. In 2014, he had a near-drowning experience when his surfboard leash got caught on some rocks. Thankfully, Jimmy Buffett, yes, the “Margaritaville” legend, was on vacation nearby and came to Jost’s rescue. They even spent some time hanging out afterward, which sounds like quite the memorable experience.
Covering the Olympics means dealing with late nights, long hours, and travel hiccups, but getting injured while working is certainly a bummer. Despite the rough situation, Jost managed to keep his humor intact. He joked about how his injury might affect his “WikiFeet score” and quipped on Instagram about spending more time in the Olympic medical tent than many athletes. His Instagram photo shows his bandaged foot, though we understand if that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
As a dedicated surfer, Jost probably anticipated some injuries at some point, but not during the Olympics. Surfing on coral reefs is known for being risky, so he’s not alone in facing such hazards. We’re rooting for Jost to recover quickly and stay injury-free for the rest of the Games. And of course, we hope he continues to share his comedic brilliance with us for years to come!
