Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s journey after prison has captivated the online world, amassing her a significant social media following—and a fair share of online vitriol. In her reality show, Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, Blanchard opens up about the horrific comments she’s received.

The Hate She Receives

According to People, Blanchard’s third episode, aired on June 17, dives into the media frenzy and her growing Instagram following post-prison. She revealed a chilling experience where she found at least ten “death threats” in her direct messages. Blanchard shared some of these venomous messages, reading aloud one that stated, “You stupid waste of space. Wait until you are canceled by real people. That’ll ruin your life.” Another user chillingly wrote, “You are going to wish you were back behind bars. I can’t wait to be a part of tearing you down bit by bit. You deserve nothing but to be six feet under or locked away forever.”

In the same episode, Blanchard recounted another disturbing message comparing her to children fighting real battles like cancer, unlike her situation, which was manipulated by her mother. This user called her a “poor excuse for a human being” and wished her the worst.

Blanchard voiced her worries about the possibility of online hate translating into real-world violence. She mentioned understanding the public’s upset over her newfound fame post-prison, fearing that a hater might escalate their aggression and physically harm her. She called this a “dangerous situation” and expressed concern about being at risk from those holding intense grudges.

Blanchard isn’t new to discussing her struggles with online criticism. In a Lifetime panel in May, she talked to People about the toll social media has taken on her mental health. Describing herself as an introvert, she said the media “storm” that hit her upon release was overwhelming. Initially touched by the positive responses, the rapid shift to negativity impacted her profoundly.
