While True Detective is on the verge of its finale for season four, it has been granted a season five.
HBO has renewed the series for season five, in addition to the Night Country showrunner Issa Lopez has signed an overall deal with the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned cabler and will return to steer the fifth season after taking over the franchise from creator Nic Pizzolatto. She will create and develop new projects for HBO.
Francesca Orsi, the streaming giant’s head of drama, said in a statement, “Alongside Jodie and Kali’s impeccable performances, [Issa] made this installation of the franchise a massive success, we are so lucky to have her as part of our family.” She also mentioned that Issa has helmed True Detective: Night Country from start to finish, and have never once flattered her own commendable vision. The Head of Drama also credited Issa for inspiring them on the page, as well as behind the camera.
Night Country became the most watches season of True Detective. Issa was roped in to take over the franchise after Pizzolatto’s overall deal with HBO expired and the showrunner opted to move to Disney.
