39 independent productions have been given permission by SAG-AFTRA to shoot during the strike after demonstrating their independence from AMPTP businesses.

The independent production studio A24 has two films on the list: “Death of a Unicorn,” starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and “Mother Mary,” starring Anne Hathaway and Michaela Coel, all of whom are currently filming in Hungary.
According to a corporate representative, A24 is not a member of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

Along with “The Rivals of Amziah King,” starring Matthew McConaughey, “Flight Risk,” with Mark Wahlberg and Sigourney Weaver, “Dust Bunny,” starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver, “Bride Hard,” featuring Rebel Wilson, and “The Chosen,” a TV series on Jesus’ life, the list of projects also includes others.

The union provided a list of the 39 projects that have already been approved on Tuesday. Even if some of the projects are already finished, the performers cannot promote them without a waiver. The productions consent to abide by the conditions of SAG-AFTRA’s most recent offer made in contract discussions. The final agreement reached by the AMPTP will be followed by the productions.

Actors are strongly encouraged to take part in such projects, according to Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the union’s executive director, who made this statement during a conference call on Tuesday. If independent productions can proceed under the union’s terms, he claimed, that weakens the studio talking point that the union’s demands are “unrealistic.”
