The American actor Robert Downey Jr.’s father who was also a filmmaker passed away at the age of 85 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s disease.
To share the news of his father’s demise the actor took to his Instagram handle and informed that, his father died on late Tuesday in his sleep in New York.
Sharing the news the actor posted a picture of his father from his young days calling him “a true maverick filmmaker”.
The ‘Avengers’ star wrote, “RIP Bob D. Sr. 1936-2021…Last night, dad passed peacefully in his sleep after years of enduring the ravages of Parkinson’s ..he was a true maverick filmmaker, and remained remarkably optimistic throughout.”
He continued, “According to my stepmoms calculations, they were happily married for just over 2000 years. Rosemary Rogers-Downey, you are a saint, and our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
For the unversed, Robert Downey Sr. is an actor, producer, writer, director and cinematographer. He was born on June 24, 1936, in New York City. The filmmaker was earlier had his name as Robert Elias Jr. but he later changed it to Robert Downey in honour of his stepfather James Downey and also to get enlisted in the Army early. He kick-started his career with the short film ‘Ball’s Bluff” followed by a few indies. He later worked on Big-budgeted films like Greaser’s Palace (1972) and Up the Academy (1980). His film “Putney Swope” got him a big break and recognition. Later, he directed “Greaser’s Palace”.He had also appeared in ‘Boogie Nights’, Magnolia’ and ‘To Live and Die in L.A.’
His last directorial was ‘Ritten House Square’ in 2005.
