Apple TV+ has slotted a summer premier date for Sunny, a half-hour darkly comedic drama, starring an executive produced by Rashida Jones. The 10 episodes series will release it’s first two episodes on July 10, which will be followed by two new episodes every Wednesday through September 4.
The series, which is created by Katie Robbins, who is known for The Affair, The Last Tycoon, is based on the book Dark Manual by Japan- based award- winning Irish writer Colin O’Sullivan. Rashida will be playing the character Suzie, who is an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan. Her life has turned upside down when her husband and son disappear in a plane crash. As consolation, she receives Sunny, which is a new class of domestic robot, made by her husband’s electronic company.
Initially, Suzie ignores Sunny’s attempt onto filling in the void in her life but over time they develop friendship, as they together uncover the dark truth of what happened to Suzie’s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.
Apart from Rashida, the show also stars Hidetoshi Nishijima, Judy Ongg, Joanna Sotomura, YOU, Jun Kunimura, and annie the clumsy.
The upcoming show will mark second collaboration between Apple, A24, and Rashida following the global premiere of acclaimed film On The Rocks.
