The American football star turned actor passed away last week at the age of 76. He had been a controversial figure as he was cleared in the double murder trial of his wife. Netflix in the US has licensed the popular famous 30 for 30 ABC/ESPN documentary series for two years.
It must be noted that the documentary series, titled 30 for 30: O.J.: Made in America, was only added to the streaming platform on April 13, 2024.
The addition comes after Netflix has been slowly rebuilding its 30 for 30 documentary library following its complete departure in January 2017. The news of ESPN’s signature documentary to be streamed on Netflix first came in December 2023 with a new deal bringing Disney-owned titles to Netflix in the US. Since then, two batches of titles have arrived so far on the streaming giant.
Speaking of OJ Simpson documentary, the five part docu series, came as a surprise addition to Netflix last week. It has runtime of 475 minutes, which comes just under eight hours in total and, to many, is regarded as the definitive documentary series on the life of O.J.
The documentary has won Oscar for Best Documentary Feature and holds a rating of 8.9 on IMDb. It shows how the star football went from sports to acting as second career. The series also details the allegations and trial faced by Simpson in 1995.
