Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s father, recently bared his soul to the Daily Mail, drawing unexpected parallels between his own life and that of King Charles. Both men, grappling with health issues and estrangement from Meghan and Prince Harry, find themselves in similar, albeit royal, predicaments.

Thomas Markle opened up about his empathy for King Charles, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in February following a prostate procedure. “I would love to speak to the monarch because I am sure he has as many unanswered questions as I do,” Mr. Markle shared. “He is going through cancer treatment and I’m not in the best of health. I’m not afraid of dying. It is what it is.”

With a heavy heart, Thomas expressed his longing to reconnect with Meghan and Harry, driven by a multitude of questions. His most pressing query: “Why have they treated not only me but the Royal Family and the King so badly?” He firmly believes that neither he nor King Charles deserve the treatment they’ve received, adding, “I feel deep empathy for the British sovereign.”

The relationship between Meghan, Harry, and their fathers has been strained for years. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down as senior royals in January 2020 and relocate to Montecito, California, marked a significant shift. Thomas’ bond with Meghan soured after he was caught staging press photos before her May 2018 wedding, a scandal addressed in the Netflix documentary series “Harry & Meghan.”

Reflecting on this, Harry said, “Of course, it’s incredibly sad what happened. She had a father before this. Now she doesn’t have a father. I shouldered that. Because if Meg wasn’t with me, then her dad would still be her dad.”

Thomas also lamented that he has yet to meet his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet Diana. He pointed out that Archie and Lilibet have “two grandpas who want to see them,” with one being the King of England. “I never in my 80 years thought I’d be in the same boat as the king,” Markle mused.

Reflecting on the fractured family dynamics, Thomas expressed deep regret and a yearning for reconciliation. “I was always ready and willing to do that,” he said wistfully.

For those less familiar with the backstory, Thomas Markle and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, were married from 1979 to 1987. The aftermath of their split and the ensuing family drama have only added layers to the complexities of Meghan’s royal journey
