The British Royal Family is finally getting a breather with Kate Middleton’s recent public appearance quashing months of concerning rumors about her health. However, the turmoil is far from over. It seems Meghan Markle and Prince Harry may not have been trying to reconcile with King Charles III after all.

Royal experts and insiders have reported that Meghan and Harry’s recent trip to Nigeria and their continued “royal” behavior, despite no longer being senior working royals, have deeply frustrated both King Charles and Prince William. Reports suggest that Harry has made multiple attempts to reconcile with his father, all of which have been rebuffed. This ongoing tension was highlighted by the couple’s absence from the Trooping the Colour event for the second consecutive year, which was widely perceived as a snub by the King.

Or was it?

According to Richard Eden, Diary Editor for the Daily Mail, the Sussexes actually have an “open invitation” to all major royal events. Eden claims that their absence from the King’s birthday parade was their choice, not a result of being snubbed by Charles. Daily Mail’s Editor Charlotte Griffiths suggests that Meghan’s discomfort with sharing the spotlight may be a factor, harking back to her initial Trooping the Colour appearance. This raises the question: did Meghan influence Harry to skip the event, potentially harming his chance of reconciliation?

While the Daily Mail often targets Meghan, the notion of the couple having an open invitation to royal events and choosing not to attend does make sense. Harry is currently fighting to regain the security he enjoyed as a senior royal, arguing that the diminished protection poses a risk when they visit the UK. Given these security concerns, it’s plausible they opted to skip the parade to avoid potential threats.

The re-emergence of a “warning” from Prince William adds another layer to the story. William had cautioned Harry about rushing into marriage with Meghan, but Harry proposed in 2017, leading to their marriage and subsequent disagreements between the brothers. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond noted that William’s advice to “take it slow” was well-intentioned.

Despite ongoing rumors and predictions of a split, Meghan and Harry seem to be pursuing their own path. Former royal butler Grant Harrold supports reports that the couple is revisiting an “original idea” they pitched to Queen Elizabeth, planning to live half the year in the UK and the rest in America while continuing their royal duties. This idea was reflected in their response to the Royal statement about cutting ties, affirming their commitment to their duties and organizations.

Harrold notes, “I can believe that Harry would like to be back here, he loves the UK. He had an amazing upbringing here, he loved living here.” Their recent trip to Nigeria and continued royal-like treatment suggests that the couple remains dedicated to their initial vision, despite not being official working royals.

In essence, Meghan and Harry appear to be sticking together through it all—leaving the palace, potentially snubbing the King, and working towards their original plan. This unity may frustrate William and Charles, but for many, it epitomizes “couple goals.”
