At Marvel Studios’ grand Comic-Con showcase, the biggest buzz was undoubtedly about Robert Downey Jr.’s return in *Avengers: Doomsday*. However, the spotlight also shone brightly on the upcoming *Fantastic Four* reboot, titled *The Fantastic 4: First Steps*, directed by Matt Shakman. This film is set in a “retro-future” 1960s alternate universe and is eagerly anticipated by fans.
The trailer, which was initially shown only in Hall H but has since leaked online, gives us our first glimpse of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the beloved Fantastic Four. While the trailer itself is exciting, what really stood out to fans was the undeniable chemistry between Pascal and Kirby, who play Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman, respectively.
Their on-screen chemistry is already making waves, and it’s clear from their interactions—lingering looks, heartfelt comments, and even some surprising public displays of affection—that Pascal and Kirby have a great connection both in front of and behind the camera. This has sparked a lot of excitement among Marvel fans, who are thrilled at the prospect of a Reed Richards and Sue Storm who genuinely seem to have a strong bond.
In contrast, previous adaptations of the Fantastic Four often struggled with on-screen chemistry. Ioan Gruffudd and Jessica Alba’s versions, while popular, didn’t quite capture the romantic spark between their characters. Likewise, Miles Teller and Kate Mara’s portrayals failed to convince fans of their on-screen relationship, partly due to less-than-ideal styling choices.
With Pascal and Kirby’s electric chemistry, it looks like Marvel might have finally found a pair that can deliver both compelling performances and a believable romance. If all goes well, we could see a new MCU power couple alongside iconic pairs like Tony Stark and Pepper Potts or Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter when *The Fantastic 4: First Steps* hits theaters in July 2025.
