Mark Hamill is urging every Democrat to get out and vote on November 5, warning that our current situation is scarier than anything Edgar Allan Poe or Stephen King ever dreamed up.
Hamill, famous for playing Luke Skywalker, has long been critical of Donald Trump and his controversial policies. Now, with Kamala Harris stepping up as the Democratic candidate after Joe Biden’s exit, Hamill is rallying support for her campaign. In a recent event called White Dudes for Harris, he highlighted that the 2024 election is about more than just party lines. He pointed out a troubling initiative called Project 2025, which is backed by the conservative Heritage Foundation.
Hamill described Project 2025 as a nightmare scenario. He explained that it proposes firing 50,000 federal employees and replacing them with loyalists who must believe the 2020 election was stolen. The plan also aims to eliminate the Department of Education and fundamentally transform American democracy into something more autocratic. He said, “You don’t need to read all 900 pages, but just Google Project 2025. It’s more frightening than anything Poe or King ever imagined.”
Project 2025 outlines plans to revamp the executive branch if Trump wins again. It includes reclassifying thousands of federal workers as political appointees who are loyal to Trump. Additionally, it suggests raising taxes on the middle class, cutting climate research funding, restricting contraceptive use, and banning abortion as a healthcare option. The proposal is alarming because many of its backers are former Trump officials.
Hamill likens this to the rise of Emperor Palpatine in *Star Wars*, who slowly took control of the Republic by replacing key officials with his own allies. Project 2025 aims to centralize presidential power, potentially turning the U.S. government into a more conservative Christian state.
But as long as Luke Skywalker has a say, Hamill is fighting to prevent this from happening.
