Margot Robbie, famous for her role as Harley Quinn, is hoping for a new direction in her portrayal of the character. She’s been advocating for a romantic storyline between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, who is also portrayed as queer. Robbie has been pushing for this LGBTQ+ romance in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) for years. During a recent press tour for her film Babylon, she expressed her passion for this idea, saying, “I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I’ve been pushing for that. I want it too.”
When asked if she had a particular actress in mind to play Poison Ivy, Robbie revealed that she prefers to think of the character in the way she’s depicted in comic books rather than casting a specific actress. This shows her dedication to staying true to the comic book origins and presenting an authentic version of Poison Ivy on screen.
Robbie first brought Harley Quinn to life in Suicide Squad, and she reprised the role in Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. Fans are hopeful that James Gunn, who has taken over DC Studios, will bring Robbie’s version of Harley Quinn back, as Gunn has shown enthusiasm for both the character and Robbie’s portrayal.
However, Robbie won’t be appearing as Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie À Deux, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. This means Robbie’s vision of a Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy romance remains a hopeful idea rather than an immediate reality in the DCEU, leaving fans to wonder if it will ever come to fruition.
