Madonna was in intensive care for several days after contracting a dangerous bacterial infection on Saturday. Her manager announced in a statement that she will postpone a world tour that was set to begin next month.
Guy Oseary, the singer’s manager, claimed on Instagram that the artist is still under medical monitoring but is expected to recover fully. “We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows,” he said.
Madonna’s representatives, including Oseary, were unable to quickly comment on the severity of her illness or whether she was conscious and responsive.
Her Celebration Tour, which was announced in a video in January and featured Amy Schumer, Jack Black, and Lil Wayne among others, was slated to kick up on July 15 in Vancouver, with shows planned to continue into next year. The tour was scheduled to stop in Seattle, New York, Washington, D.C., Mexico City, and London.
“I don’t take any of this for granted,” Madonna, 64, stated a few days after her tour was announced. “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”
In recent years, the pop diva has had a spate of health issues, including horseback riding accidents in 2005 and 2009. She stated in 2020 that she would be getting regenerative treatment for lost cartilage, many months after unexpectedly cancelling a concert in Lisbon, stating she needed “to listen to my body and rest.”
