Katy Perry has revealed that the upcoming season 22 of American Idol will be her last.

The singer appeared on Monday’s night episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, wherein she was directly asked by host Jimmy Kimmel how long she was likely to continue to with Idol. Katy has been the judge on the reality show, along with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, since the show was revived in 2018.

“Well, you know, this fall, this September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio,” said the singer. She added that the festival is a really big deal for people all over the world, especially for her fans in the South American country. In response to Jimmy’s question, Katy stated, “So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.”

Her reply was received by a few gasps from the audience. She has been running as a judge on the show for as long as seven seasons.

“I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I need to feel that pulse of my own beat,” stated Katy, vaguely hinting at releasing her new music or possibly a world tour soon.
