Kate Middleton issued apologies for not being able to attend the pre-trooping color ceremony. As the Princess of Wales and the colonel of the Irish Guards, she was set to participate in King Charles’ birthday celebrations. Irish Guards’ Response to Kate Middleton’s Letter

The Irish Guards responded warmly to Middleton’s message, stating, “The Irish Guards were deeply touched to receive a letter from our Colonel, Her Royal Highness, The Princess of Wales this morning. We continue to wish Her Royal Highness well in her recovery and send Her our very best wishes.”

Typically, the Princess of Wales leads the trooping ceremony and would have taken the salute at the Colonel’s review of the Irish Guards on June 8. This year, Lieutenant General James Bucknall, Colonel of the Coldstream Guards, took the salute in her place.
