Jon Stewart is not someone to just sit back when being criticised. The host, who was being slammed for his take on President Joe Biden last week during his Daily Show return, doubled it down in his second episode Monday night.
Stewart opened his second show back on the Comedy Central late-night series by diving right into the backlash to his first, as he was citing the story in Hollywood Reporter. The host had generated plenty of headlines for the episode wherein he had mocked for his age-related cognitive issues. Some progressives, while slamming the segment, have accused Stewart of inadvertently helping Biden’s election rival, Donald Trump.
“The response to the first show last Monday was universally glowing – okay, maybe not universally,” he started, while showing some screenshots of critical posts on X. “Everything on Twitter gets a backlash. I’ve seen Twitter tell Labradoodles to go f–k themselves. I just think it’s better to deal head on with what’s an apparent issue to people.”
The host added that all he did was one show of 20 minutes, and took an indirect dig saying “As the famous saying goes: ‘Democracy dies in discussion’.” He continued to take multiple jibes ahead saying that he did not have any intention to speak about what he saw with his eyes and then brain.
