Despite a debate performance that had many questioning President Joe Biden’s health, the commander-in-chief managed to deliver a significant jab at Donald Trump. Biden had to wade into the muck to do it, though. While Melania Trump and her son Barron were absent from the debate, they were dragged into the fray as Biden, finding his stride about 30 minutes in, highlighted Trump’s recent legal troubles. Trump, after all, was found liable for sexually assaulting E. Jean Carroll and became the first president to be convicted of a felony for business fraud. How did he commit that fraud? By concealing a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels to keep their affair under wraps during the 2016 election. In a fiery exchange, Biden used these scandals to underscore Trump’s dubious morals.
“How many felonies for molesting a woman in public?” Biden shot at Trump during the CNN debate. “For doing a whole range of things, like having sex with a porn star while your wife was pregnant. I mean, what are you talking about? You have the morals of an alley cat.”
Yet, Biden did stumble over one detail.
Contrary to Biden’s assertion, Trump had an affair with Stormy Daniels after Barron was born, not while Melania was pregnant. A jury, however, believed Daniels’ account, despite Trump’s denial on the debate stage. Daniels testified during the hush money trial, and her story slightly diverges from Biden’s retelling.
For starters, the affair happened four months after Barron was born. Biden was on the right track but flubbed a key fact. In court, Daniels recounted that Donald claimed he and Melania didn’t even share a bedroom, a situation that seemingly hasn’t improved, given Melania’s noticeable absence from Trump’s campaign and court appearances.
Having Trump’s affair aired on the debate stage must be mortifying, especially since he’s now the first president to deny having sex with a porn star on live television. This guy just can’t stop making history.
