Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan to return to Freaky Friday

Fans of Lindsay Lohan who grew up watching “Freaky Friday” are thrilled with the announcement of a sequel to the beloved film. The 37-year-old actress is set to return alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, reprising their iconic mother-daughter roles. Walt Disney Studios confirmed the exciting news in an official post on X (formerly Twitter), declaring the return of the Colemans.

Freaky Friday Reunion

The original 2003 film, inspired by Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel, starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan as a mother and daughter who swap bodies after consuming a magical Chinese fortune cookie. The movie was a hit, grossing over $160 million on a $26 million budget. The sequel is scheduled for release in 2025, although additional details remain under wraps.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan celebrated their reunion on Instagram, sharing photos and videos. Jamie captioned one photo, “WE ARE FREAKING OUT because the Colemans are getting FREAKY AGAIN,” while Lindsay posted a photo with the caption, “We’re back.”

Freaky Friday Sequel Cast

In addition to Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, several original cast members will reprise their roles, including Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rosalind Chao, and Chad Michael Murray. Newcomers Julia Butters (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Sophia Hammons (Under Wraps), and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever) will join the cast, though their roles have not been disclosed.

Freaky Friday Sequel Plot

Directed by Nisha Ganatra (Late Night), the sequel picks up years after the original body switch between Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan). According to the synopsis, Anna now has a daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. The plot teases the possibility of multiple body switches, leaving fans to speculate about who might swap places this time.

The sequel raises many questions: How far has Anna gone with her band Pink Slip? Are Tess and Ryan still together? Is Anna still dating Jake? These questions and more will hopefully be answered when the “Freaky Friday” sequel hits theaters in 2025.
