As much as Harry Potter fans may hope to see Albus Potter’s adventures on the big screen, as of now, there’s no Harry Potter and the Cursed Child movie in the works. Despite swirling rumors suggesting a 2025 release, Warner Bros. has made it clear they have no immediate plans to adapt the stage play for film.

Initially introduced as the eighth installment in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is uniquely crafted for the stage, not as a novel or screenplay. Written by Jack Thorne, John Tiffany, and J.K. Rowling herself, the story picks up nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, focusing on Harry’s son, Albus Severus Potter, and his struggle to live up to his father’s legacy.

Is ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ a movie?

Since its premiere at London’s Palace Theatre in 2016, the play has garnered immense popularity, prompting global productions in cities like New York, Melbourne, San Francisco, Hamburg, Toronto, and Tokyo. It’s set to embark on a North American tour starting September 2024, marking its first tour ever.

While fans can purchase the script of both parts of the stage play as books—Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Part One and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Part Two—there’s been no indication that a film adaptation is forthcoming. The allure of seeing beloved characters like Harry, Hermione, and Ron on screen again, coupled with Albus Potter’s unique journey, certainly tantalizes fans’ imaginations.

For now, enthusiasts can only speculate and hold out hope that someday, a cinematic adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child might wave its wand into existence—a wish echoed by countless fans across the globe.
