George Clooney has recently voiced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris following Joe Biden’s decision to step away from the 2024 presidential race. Clooney, who had previously suggested in an opinion piece for The New York Times that Biden should withdraw after a poor debate performance, now praises Biden’s choice to exit the race as a display of true leadership.
In a CNN interview, Clooney highlighted Biden’s decision as a crucial moment for democracy, applauding the president for stepping aside and backing Harris as the Democratic candidate. Clooney remarked, “President Biden has shown what true leadership is,” and expressed enthusiasm for supporting Harris in her historic candidacy.
Clooney’s supportive stance follows his recent fundraising event, which set a record by raising $28 million. He emphasized the urgency felt among Democrats, stating they are “all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we’ve opted to ignore every warning sign.”
In his op-ed, Clooney shared his admiration for Biden’s character and achievements over the years, but candidly acknowledged the challenges of aging. He noted, “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010.” Clooney expressed that Biden, though a friend and respected leader, was not the same as he had been in earlier years.
On the entertainment front, Clooney is gearing up to star alongside Brad Pitt in the upcoming film Wolfs.
