There has been a lot of buzz about a potential remake of the 1991 crime drama New Jack City, especially with a poster featuring Mahershala Ali making the rounds online. However, as of now, there is no confirmed plan for a remake of the film starring Ali.

Current Status of a New Jack City Remake

  • Fake Poster Rumors: The poster circulating online featuring Mahershala Ali in a trench coat and hat is not associated with any official project. It was created by an account known for producing fake film posters. Therefore, there is no Netflix reboot starring Ali confirmed at this time.
  • Previous Discussions: In 2019, there were indeed discussions about a reboot of New Jack City. Malcolm M. Mays was reported to be working on a reboot, and there were talks about a prequel and sequel project titled The Diary of Nino Brown: The Monster Reagan Created, as mentioned by original screenwriter Barry Michael Cooper. However, Wesley Snipes, who played the iconic role of Nino Brown in the original film, has stated that he is not involved in any such project.
  • Current Availability: Fans of the original film can still enjoy New Jack City on streaming platforms like Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

While the remake might be a popular idea among fans, especially given the trend of reviving classic films, there’s no official confirmation of it happening at the moment. Mahershala Ali, however, will be making waves in the MCU with his upcoming role in Blade, set for release in late 2025.

For now, fans of New Jack City can continue to appreciate the original film while keeping an eye out for any future developments regarding a possible remake or related projects.
