The buzz around a live-action The Simpsons movie featuring Adam Sandler has fans scratching their heads about its authenticity.
A recent video posted by the YouTuber Multiverse of AI has sparked confusion. This video appears to be a trailer for a live-action version of The Simpsons, with Adam Sandler supposedly cast as Homer Simpson. The trailer also lists Kristen Wiig as Marge, McKenna Grace as Lisa, Jacob Tremblay as Bart, and Will Ferrell as Ned Flanders.
However, it’s important to note that this trailer is a creation of artificial intelligence and not an actual film project. The video is designed to show what these actors might look like as live-action versions of The Simpsons characters, but it doesn’t use the show’s iconic yellow skin tone, which is a clear sign it’s not real.
Given that this project is purely fan-made and AI-generated, it’s extremely unlikely that The Simpsons will be developed into a live-action film in the foreseeable future. The show’s unique animation style and established character designs are a big part of its charm and appeal, making a live-action version improbable.
Will The Simpsons 2 Ever Release?
While a live-action The Simpsons movie is unlikely, the beloved animated series might have a shot at returning to theaters in its traditional animated form.
Since Disney acquired the rights to the show, fans still remember The Simpsons Movie from 2007, which was a major hit. It earned nearly $540 million worldwide and holds an impressive 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In May 2024, longtime showrunner Al Jean hinted at the possibility of a sequel. He mentioned that while there’s ongoing talk about a new movie, the animation industry as a whole is facing challenges. Jean expressed hope that upcoming animated films will do well and boost the genre’s presence in theaters.
Co-showrunner Matt Selman added that creating a movie is much more demanding than making TV episodes. He compared the effort needed for a film to that of producing 30 episodes, highlighting the complexity of delivering a compelling and entertaining film experience.
Additionally, in November 2023, a rumor surfaced suggesting that 20th Century Studios might want James L. Brooks to collaborate with The Simpsons creator Matt Groening on a sequel. However, there’s been no concrete development on this front yet.
With 17 years since the original movie and The Simpsons still running strong, the chance for a sequel isn’t out of the question. Fans will have to wait and see, but the possibility of a return to the big screen remains intriguing.
The first 35 seasons of The Simpsons are available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, with Season 36 set to premiere on September 19.
