Hilaria Baldwin disclosed that she would have ended her relationship with Alec Baldwin if his eldest daughter, Ireland Baldwin, had not approved of their union. Speaking on the March 23 episode of The Baldwins on TLC, Hilaria reflected on her connection with Ireland, describing it as an unusual stepmother-stepdaughter relationship.
Acknowledging their close bond, Hilaria noted the 11-year age gap between them and remarked that she had not been involved in raising Ireland. She stated that she and Ireland found humor in their dynamic and had never encountered conflicts.
Recalling the early days of her relationship with Alec, Hilaria revealed that she had informed him that Ireland’s opinion would determine whether she stayed. She expressed that she had no intention of becoming a disruptive presence in the family, emphasizing her respect for their existing relationships. According to her, Ireland welcomed her without hesitation, setting the foundation for an effortless relationship.
Alec Baldwin, who was previously married to Kim Basinger from 1993 to 2002, had a strained relationship with Ireland following a custody battle. However, the father-daughter relationship improved over time, and Ireland has since grown close to both Alec and Hilaria, along with their seven children.
During the episode, Alec humorously remarked that Hilaria had previously been drawn to younger partners, adding that he had met some of them and understood their appeal. In response, Hilaria lightheartedly stated that she had prioritized good looks in a potential partner, joking that Alec happened to be the first attractive man she encountered.
TLC’s The Baldwins airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
