Taylor Swift, the pop sensation, has generally kept her political opinions to herself. She chose not to endorse any candidate in the 2016 election. In 2020, her support for the Biden/Harris campaign was subtle—she posted a picture of sugar cookies decorated with the campaign’s logo on Instagram.

As the 2024 election gets closer, with the potential candidates being Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on one side and Donald Trump and JD Vance on the other, fans of Taylor Swift (known as Swifties) are on the lookout for any hints about who she might support. While a celebrity endorsement isn’t supposed to decide your vote, many think that if Taylor Swift backed Harris, it would be a big boost for the Democratic party. So, has she endorsed the Harris/Walz ticket?

Despite some fans speculating that a recent Instagram photo of Taylor, showing a woman in a pantsuit behind her, might hint at support for Vice President Harris, Taylor has not publicly endorsed any candidate for the upcoming election.

While Taylor herself hasn’t made any political endorsements, her fans are actively getting involved. With President Biden ending his reelection campaign, Swifties are rallying online, encouraging others to vote for Harris. Fans are also emphasizing the importance of voting and showing up to the polls in November to support the Democratic nominee.

Taylor Swift has talked about her decision to not endorse Kamala Harris!

Taylor Swift has faced a lot of scrutiny for her decision not to endorse a candidate during the 2016 election, and she’s opened up about why she chose to stay out of it. At the time, she was concerned about how her public image could impact her decision. Between 2015 and 2016, before her album reputation came out, she was dealing with a lot of negative public opinion.

In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Taylor explained that during the summer before the election, she was being criticized as “calculated,” “manipulative,” and even called a “snake” and a “liar.” These were similar insults directed at Hillary Clinton, and Taylor worried that endorsing a candidate might be seen as her just joining a negative narrative. She wondered if her endorsement would be seen as a positive contribution or as adding to the criticism of Clinton.

As for the upcoming 2024 election, it’s still uncertain whether Taylor will make an endorsement. With the recent cancellation of her Eras Tour shows in Vienna due to a planned terror attack, she might not be ready to announce her support for a candidate anytime soon.
