At a recent concert, English singer Harry Styles stunned the crowd by performing a well-known Australian custom. Harry began the opening night of his Australian concert in Perth by sipping water from his sneaker.
Harry is shown in a popular video mingling with the audience between songs at HBF Park while partaking in the intriguing Australian drinking custom known as shoey. A shoey is when a person puts alcohol into one shoe and chugs it, a term made popular by Formula 1 racer Daniel Ricciardo. Harry, though, drank water.
In the video, the vocalist from As It Was addresses the crowd and asks, “Does anybody have a drink that they wouldn’t mind lending?” He further asks his fans, “Can we do a shoey with water or is that against the rules? No?”
He is then seen bringing his sneaker out and dumping a drink into his mouth from his shoe. Before that he comments, “This is one of the most disgusting traditions.”

Harry says after doing the shoey: “I feel like a different person. I feel ashamed of myself. It feels so personal. Such an intimate moment to be shared with so many people. I’ll be discussing this with my therapist at length.”
During their earlier tours, Post Malone and the country singer Kacey Musgraves were among the other musicians who performed this Australian custom.
Harry pulling off a shoey has gotten feedback from fans online. The humorous post from a fan read, “His soul left his body.” “The most bleh with this shoey thing is that you have to walk in drenched shoe after,” another person remarked.
