Did Taylor Swift sue Ryan Reynolds over copyright infringement in ‘Deadpool 2?’

In a recent chat, Ryan Reynolds shared a funny story about a legal mix-up involving Taylor Swift and a tiny detail in Deadpool 2. The drama centers on a T-shirt worn by Reynolds’ character, Wade Wilson, which features images of Taylor Swift’s cats, Meredith and Olivia. This innocent nod to the singer nearly turned into a legal mess.

During an interview with SiriusXM’s Town Hall in New York, Reynolds joked about the T-shirt, saying, “Yes, I had a T-shirt made with [Swift’s cats] Meredith and Olivia on it. Just a little detail, that’s all.” When asked if he had asked Swift for permission, Reynolds humorously responded, “No, I was sued. I lost everything in that one.” He went on to describe a comically exaggerated legal battle involving “very, very powerful lawyers” and paralegals so tough that “the real lawyers didn’t even bother with it.”

But don’t start picturing a courtroom showdown between Deadpool and Taylor Swift just yet. Reynolds was just kidding around. The Deadpool 2 team did get the green light from Swift’s camp to use her cats’ images, as Reynolds clarified in the same interview. He assured, “I would never do such a thing without her permission.”

In reality, Reynolds and Swift are good friends. Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, are close with Swift, and they’ve even attended her concerts together. Reynolds admitted his family is “obsessed” with Swift’s music. There’s no animosity between these stars, and there’s even talk that Swift might make a cameo in the Deadpool & Wolverine sequel—imagine that!

So, when you spot that cat-themed T-shirt in Deadpool 2, remember it’s just a fun tribute to Swift and not a sign of any legal drama. It’s a great example of how friendships in Hollywood can add a bit of extra charm to the movies.
