Disney Theatrical Group has announced a stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman, which will soon grace Broadway. The news was revealed at the D23 Expo on August 9, 2024, in Anaheim, California. The announcement was accompanied by a dazzling performance featuring Ryan Vasquez, known for his role in The Notebook on Broadway, who took the stage as P.T. Barnum. He and his ensemble performed a stirring version of the film’s signature song, “The Greatest Show,” giving fans a preview of the musical adaptation.

Although specific dates and locations for the Broadway debut are yet to be announced, Disney’s Instagram post hinted at the excitement with the caption, “This is the moment you’ve waited for,” along with emojis.

The Greatest Showman, released by 20th Century Fox in 2017, became a surprising success despite its mixed initial reviews. The film, starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya, grossed nearly $462 million worldwide. Its soundtrack, featuring original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, became a global sensation, winning a Grammy and making the album the best-selling of 2018.

In addition to the Broadway adaptation, Disney Theatrical Group also announced that a stage musical of Hercules will debut in London’s West End in 2025, and a filmed version of Frozen from London will be available on Disney+ in 2025. These announcements highlight Disney’s ongoing commitment to transforming popular films into stage and screen experiences.
