Between Ryan Reynolds’ sharp humor and the Marvel 20th Century Fox universe’s dramatic unraveling, there’s a lot to unpack in the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine.” One major question is whether the Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) we see here is the same one we left at the end of “Logan” from 2017. The film doesn’t keep us guessing for long; it quickly confirms that Logan is definitely dead, even having Deadpool do a dance with Logan’s skeleton as a humorous nod to his demise.
The movie kicks off with a memorable scene where Deadpool (Reynolds) digs up Wolverine’s bones, which were last seen being buried by X-23 (Dafne Keen) in “Logan.” Deadpool, ever disrespectful, waves Wolverine’s skeleton around with little care. This confirms that the Logan we saw previously—mourning as a limo driver and tearing up over references to the film “Shane”—is gone for good. Or at least, he was until the Secret Wars might throw a wrench into things.
Could Logan Return in Secret Wars?
While there’s no guarantee that Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine again in future MCU movies, it’s not out of the question. In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the TVA (Time Variance Authority) hints at the possibility of rewinding time. This opens the door for Logan’s death from “Logan” to be undone, considering that the comics have seen multiple versions of Wolverine at different times.
So, could the Wolverine who’s been dead for seven years come back to stir up more trouble? It’s possible. Jackman has portrayed various versions of Wolverine before, even acting alongside himself in “Logan” as the character X-24. Adding another version to the mix wouldn’t be too far-fetched. With rumors swirling about Wolverine making an appearance in “Avengers: Secret Wars,” we might see Jackman back in action sooner than expected.
