Ben Miller, famously known to Death in Paradise fans as DI Richard Poole, is set to don the detective hat once again in the second series of Channel 4’s drama Suspect. In a delightful twist, his character in Suspect is also named Richard—Detective Superintendent Richard Groves. Could a Saint Marie cameo be in his future?

The first glimpse of Ben in the upcoming series shows him sporting glasses and returning to his role as Detective Superintendent Richard Groves, a part he originally played in the show’s first season. He joins a stellar cast that includes Anne-Marie Duff, Dominic Cooper, Eddie Marsan, Vinette Robinson, Celine Buckens, Nicholas Pinnock, and Gina McKee.

The new series picks up right where it left off, with Dr. Susannah Newman on a relentless quest to uncover the truth behind her daughter’s tragic death. A sneak peek (below) shows Groves and Dr. Newman deep in conversation.

Best known for his stint as DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise from 2011 to 2014 (with a brief return in 2021), Ben Miller has proven his versatility time and again. Besides his role in Suspect, Ben has been busy with an Australian series titled Austin, co-produced by ITV Studios, hinting at a potential ITV airing. In Austin, he stars alongside Sally Phillips in an eight-part comedy, playing a children’s author—a role quite fitting, as Ben is an accomplished children’s author himself. His literary works include titles like How I Became A Dog Called Midnight, The Boy Who Made the World Disappear, and Diary of a Big Bad Wolf,
