The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders will be once again subjected to unscripted series – this time at Netflix.
The streamer says its show, titled American’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, will premiere in the summer and counts Cheer and Last Chance U’s Greg Whiteley among its executive producers, who will also be directing. The series will premiere on Netflix some two and years after it ended its 16 seasons long run on CMT, where it was titled Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team.
Contrary to the latter show, which often had the structure of a competition series, America’s Sweethearts seems to bring forward a more of a polished version, at least that is what is conveyed in the trailer. The show will chronicle the 2023-24 season for the cheerleaders and will also focus on “the personal stories behind the uniforms,” as per Netflix description.
American’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is executive produced by Whiteley and Adam Leibowiyz for One Potato Productions; Ross M. Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans for Campfire Studios; and Andrew Fried and Dane Lillegard for Boardwalk Pictures.
Charlotte Jones, executive vp and chief brand officer for Cowboyos and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders president, who is also the daughter of the team owner Jerry Jones, said that they decided to take on this opportunity to share their emotions, challenges, and joy with the fans and the world.
