Channing Tatum has finally stepped into the spotlight as Gambit, thanks to his role in the recent MCU film, Deadpool & Wolverine. Tatum had been eyeing the role of Gambit for years and had numerous discussions with the film’s creators. It wasn’t until this movie that he got his chance to bring the character to life. His performance has been well-received, and fans are now eagerly wondering if there will be a solo Gambit film starring Tatum.
Tatum’s connection to Gambit goes back a long way. He was first approached about the role back in 2009, but his busy schedule led to Taylor Kitsch taking over the part. Fortunately, Tatum finally got his turn in Deadpool & Wolverine, and his portrayal has won him a lot of fans.
In a recent interview with Variety, Tatum was asked if he’s been talking to the makers about a solo Gambit movie. His response was hopeful and enthusiastic. He expressed his strong desire to reprise the role, saying, “I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please. I’ve been wanting this for the last 10 years. It’s up to Bob Iger and Kevin Feige now. I pray it happens.”
Tatum was actually close to landing his own Gambit film before. In 2014, Fox announced that he would star in a solo Gambit movie, but the project never got off the ground. Fox faced a string of superhero movie flops like X-Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and The New Mutants, which hurt the chances of a Gambit film. Things took another hit when Disney bought Fox in 2019.
Now that Gambit is part of the MCU, Marvel Studios has the say on whether Tatum will get his solo movie. However, with Marvel’s packed schedule of superhero films, the likelihood seems slim at the moment.
Fans are still excited about the possibility of Tatum leading a Gambit film. For now, they can enjoy his performance in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is currently in theaters.
